“And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, ‘Hush, be still.’ And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm.” (Mark 4:39 NASB)
“Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10)
I was impressed by these two verses this morning. In Mark chapter 4, the disciples are afraid. They feel the storm is about to send them to the bottom of the sea, but with a word the Master calms their fears as He calms the storm. They marvel at His greatness while He gently rebukes their lack of faith.
Psalm 46 begins with
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.”
Take time today to pause and ponder the greatness of your personal God. He is the Creator of the heavens and earth, the author of eternal salvation; the One who brings light to darkened hearts and life to distressed souls. He is in total control of your situation, and He is attentive to the cry of His people.
“The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah” (Psalm 46:11).
