The New Covenant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new year is already here, and I am reminded of the New Covenant that God has established based on the death of His beloved Son.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few thoughts from Mr. Bruce Rodgers that I have enjoyed, taken from his notes on 2 Corinthians 3:7-18.<\/p>\n<div style=\"font-family:arial;text-align:left;\">\n<p><h2 style=\"text-align:center;\">Contrasting features of the<br \/>Old and New Covenants<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<table border=\"7\" width=\"480\">\n<tbody>\n<tr style=\"text-align:center;\">\n<th>Old Covenant<\/th>\n<th>New Covenant<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>1) &#8216;of the letter&#8217;; on tables of stone<\/td>\n<td>1) of the Spirit, on fleshy  tables of the heart.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>2) a ministration of death &#8211; the letter killeth<\/td>\n<td>2) a ministration of the  Spirit &#8211; giving life<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>3) a ministration of condemnation<\/td>\n<td>3) ministration of  righteousness (imputed righteousness)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>4)\u00a0 Transitory &#8211; &#8216;abolished&#8217;<\/td>\n<td>4) Permanent &#8211; &#8216;remains&#8217;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>5) Face of Moses &#8211; a passing glory<\/td>\n<td>5) Face of Jesus Christ &#8211;  eternal glory of God<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>6) A veil &#8211; upon the face and the heart.<br \/>\nThe  glory was not transmitted to  people<\/td>\n<td>6) A mirror &#8211; both face  and heart &#8211; to receive and reflect  glory (3:18; 4:6)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>7) Minds blinded or hardened; unchanged&#8230;<\/td>\n<td>7) &#8216;We&#8230;are changed into the  same image&#8230;&#8217;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><div>The Old came in glory, yet could only bring death and condemnation;<\/div>\n<div>The New began with a death,\u00a0which results in justification, life, and eternal glory.<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p><div><em>From notes on Hebrews 8:8<\/em><\/div>\n<div>&#8230;The LORD takes upon Himself the initiative and  responsibility for the new covenant.\u00a0 It is to be dependent only upon  Himself for its terms and fulfillment.\u00a0 Not the repeated, \u2018I will&#8230;\u2019\u00a0  As Rom.9-11 unfolds, there is hope for Israel only in the sovereign mercy of  God, for they have forfeited every promise of blessing under the terms of the  first covenant.\u00a0 Note that the word \u2018new\u2019(kainos) here means new in  character, different in principle, than the first covenant.\u00a0 In other  places the word \u2018new\u2019(neos) means young, fresh, not old and decaying (ch.12:24;  2 Cor.3:6)<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Is the church included in the New Covenant, or does it only have to do with Israel? Mr. Rodgers believes the church is included, and I agree (though some do not); there is general agreement that believers in this age at least enter into the blessings of the New Covenant.
