My meditation recently has been upon Christ alone, and in these senses: He was physically abandoned on earth, He is unique, and He is exalted above all others. Surely He alone is worthy of our adoration and worship.<\/p>\n
A.<\/strong> The Lord was alone upon a mountain in His supplication <\/strong>and communication with the Father.<\/p>\n Matthew 14:23 – And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.<\/em><\/p>\n No other was as close to the Father as the Son of God. No other walked with God as He walked. None other pleased God like Him.<\/p>\n B. <\/strong>The Lord was alone on a mountain in His splendor <\/strong>and glory.<\/p>\n Matthew 17:1-2 – And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.<\/em><\/p>\n Moses and Elijah must fade away and Christ alone be on display. No one compares to Him in His glory and beauty.<\/p>\n C.<\/strong> The Lord was alone on the Mount of Olives in His extreme sorrow<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Matthew 26:38-39, 56 – Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. And he went a little further….Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.<\/em><\/p>\n As He contemplated the load of sin that He would have to bear, the Lord was overwhelmed with sorrow. The disciples could not share this burden with Him, and slept in the hour of His agony. Only He could drink the cup the Father gave Him, and He willingly poured out Himself as an offering.<\/p>\n D. <\/strong>The Lord was alone on the mountain in His suffering <\/strong>and death.<\/p>\n Matthew 27:46 – And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?<\/em><\/p>\n As I consider the place of His suffering and death, I am reminded of a day long before when Abraham walked up the mountain with His son Isaac (Gen. 22). \u00a0Isaac laid Himself willingly down upon the altar, alone. God there provided a Lamb, a substitute. Our suffering Lord was the only Lamb who could take our place. He was truly man, like us, and truly God, to bring us to the Father. Forsaken by His God, He alone bore the weight of our sin. Blessed Savior!<\/p>\n E. <\/strong>The feet of the Lord Jesus shall again touch the Mount of Olives– but this time He will not be alone (Zech 14:4).<\/p>\n He will come with the myriads of His saints (Zech 14:5, Jude 14). The corn of wheat that was alone in the grave will be accompanied with the much fruit of His sufferings and death (John 12:24).
