The Sorrows of Calvary must needs have come before we could sing Songs of Victory and Songs of Love. <\/span><\/p>\n

Calvary<\/span>‘s blood is the spring from which the blessing of God may flow to those who stoop to drink.<\/span><\/p>\n

I trust you will readily see the New Testament applications that may be drawn from these Old Testament Songs.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Why must my Saviour sink ‘neath mire? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Why must the floods o’erflow?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Why must He cry, forsaken be,<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

in agony brought low?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It was my sin He had to bear,<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

there was no other way<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

for me to be brought nigh to Him,<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Be brought from night to day.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

From death He has the victory,<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

and I of Him shall sing;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

He is my Lover and my Friend:<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

I will my praises bring.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

No earthly beauty met their eye,<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

yet those who find Him see<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

the Chiefest of ten thousand bore<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

my load and set me free!<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Our Savior passed through the<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Sorrows of Death<\/font><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A “I sink<\/b> in deep mire, where there is no standing<\/span><\/p>\n

B I am come into deep waters<\/b>, where the floods<\/b> overflow me.” Psalm 69:2<\/span><\/p>\n

C “O my God<\/b>,<\/span><\/p>\n

D I cry<\/b> in the daytime… night season<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

E but thou hearest not<\/b>;” Psalm 22:2<\/span><\/p>\n

F “when we shall see him, there is no beauty<\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n

G that we should desire him<\/b>.” Isaiah 53:2 “…this also shall please<\/b> the LORD better than an ox or bullock” Psalm 69:31<\/span><\/p>\n

H <\/span>Garden<\/span><\/b> of <\/span><\/b>Languishing<\/span><\/b>: “being in an agony he prayed more earnestly” Luke 22:44<\/span><\/p>\n
