I heard it first, quoted, from Darlene Deibler Rose in a recording of her speaking about her experiences in Japanese labor camps. Powerful. I think I am afraid to enter into such depths, nor do I understand the meaning of such words, as she did&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>A Peace that Cometh after Sorrow<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Jessie Rose Gates<\/em><br \/>\nThere is  a peace that cometh after sorrow,<br \/>\nOf hope surrendered, not of hope  fulfilled;<br \/>\nA peace that looketh not upon tomorrow,<br \/>\nBut calmly on a tempest  that it stilled.<br \/>\nA peace that lives not now in joy&#8217;s excesses,<br \/>\nNor in the  happy life of love secure;<br \/>\nBut in the unerring strength the heart  possesses,<br \/>\nOf conflicts won while learning to endure.<br \/>\nA peace there is, in  sacrifice secluded,<br \/>\nA life subdued, from will and passion free;<br \/>\nTis not  the peace that over Eden brooded,<br \/>\nBut that which triumphed in Gethsemane.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This poem is deep.
